Andrea Gomez (b. 2001) is a Paraguayan-American interdisciplinary artist and photographer from New York State who uses a variety of mediums to investigate the delicate intricacies of the human experience through connecting the themes of memory, love, grief, and aging. Having graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography in 2024, she is now based in Baltimore, MD where she is pursuing a Master of Arts in Teaching.

My first love is photography, a medium in which I use to explore the delicate threads that speak to the universal aspects of our existence. I aim to capture nuances, fleeting moments, and seemingly inherent magic that defines this defining stage of my life; a time of curiosity, wonder, and the unfolding of self. While photography remains a foundation, I am increasingly drawn to other materials and forms, seeking to expand the ways I can express the interconnectedness of the human experience and the universal truths we all share.

Whether through intimate portraits or abstract compositions, I seek to explore how identity is shaped by our relationships with others and with the world around us. Each medium I experiment with allows me to approach these themes from new angles, offering fresh perspectives on the shared and singular experiences of being human.

Art as a path to healing, empowerment, and growth.

Through my teaching, I hope to emphasize the value I have in using the art classroom as a tool to empower and heal students through the act of creating.  Using socioemotional learning, I choose to focus on the whole students, recognizing that emotional growth and academic success go hand in hand.  Art has the unique ability to heal, empower, and foster personal and collective growth, and I see it as my goal to create a space where all students can feel seen, valued, and heard; an environment where students can express their identities, explore their emotions, and engage with the world around them.
